East Riding Young Farmer cooks up a storm on Gordon Ramsey's FWord

fword1 (20K) An enthusiastic ERYFC member has impressed Gordon Ramsey and features on the second series of the FWord, due to be aired soon on Channel 4.

Sarah Hinchliffe has recently joined Savills (L&P) Ltd in York as a trainee Rural Surveyor after graduating from Harper Adams University College with an Upper Second Class Honours degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management.

Sarah and her friends, Charlotte Favill, Annette Hunt and Samantha Coward represented the farming community when they cooked in Gordon's kitchen as part of the nine week series where eight teams battle it out to be the best amateur chefs in the country. The reputation of farmers' daughters throughout the country rested on the shoulders of the four eager graduates from Harper Adams University College. The girls had to produce a three course dinner for fifty expectant guests, their performance being judged on the number of diners prepared to pay for their food, the show is being aired on Wednesday 9th August 2006 at 9pm on Channel 4.

The girls successfully beat 1050 teams which applied to be on the series by impressing the producers of the show with their enthusiasm for locally produced food, knowledge of the production process and passion in the kitchen. Sarah's experiences of growing up and working on her family's 1200 acre (500 hectare) arable farm, near Goole, East Yorkshire, assisted her in the kitchen, where pressure can be intense. Sarah compared the pressure in the kitchen to the harvest at home, where long hours and hard work are commonplace. This demonstration of her commitment to work should ease her return to the Savills York office, where she has already spent a year assisting in the rural agency and valuation department when on her industrial placement year from University.

Entering cookery competitions representing Goole and District Young Farmers Club prepared Sarah for the importance of presentation when serving a perfect dinner. Sarah has been a keen member Young Farmers for 8 years and has held many executive positions and enjoys competing at both Club and County Level, her achievements have included winning the Goole Young Farmers Club Annual Produce Show, Crop Judging and the Mock Auction, which involved valuing and purchasing beef stock.

During Sarah's time at university she took responsibility during her final year as warden of a Halls of Residence, ultimately being accountable for the welfare of 100 students in her care. This challenge came in addition to her time spent on the Students Union as Academic Representative, elected by her peers during her first year of study; her election as REALM course representative and her time playing with the successful Ladies 1st Hockey team and the popular Ladies Cricket team.

Savills at York would like to congratulate Sarah on achieving success in her degree and welcome her back into the rural team. The entire office is eagerly awaiting Sarah's debut as a television star when the FWord show is aired on Channel 4 on Wednesday 9th August 2006 at 9pm.
